Client
CNC is one of the largest media houses in Central Europe. They manage 40 websites, publish 4 daily newspapers (e.g., Blesk, E15), and produce 45 magazines (e.g., Reflex, ABC, and Svět motorů).
With the upcoming end of support for server-based Atlassian tools, CNC decided to migrate to Atlassian Cloud. However, the team responsible for Atlassian tools at CNC lacked sufficient knowledge to handle the migration. As a result, they entrusted the migration to the experts from our Atlassian team.
Migration process
The migration process began with an analysis known as ACM (Assessment of Cloud Migration). During the analysis, we focused on all the critical points and potential challenges that could arise during the migration. We identified elements that couldn’t be transferred to the cloud and explored alternative solutions. At the same time, we optimized the instance.
Some of the apps that the client used on the server were replaced with native Jira features during the optimization, helping the client save on costs.
After the analysis, several rounds of test migrations took place to fine-tune the process. The live migration was then carried out over the weekend. The final step was our two-week “babysitting” period, during which we provided CNC with support whenever needed.
Challenges
Despite extensive testing, we encountered an issue with the Enterprise Mail Handler for Jira (JEHM) app, which is designed to create a ticket in a configured project based on a received email. All schemas were correctly set up, the email arrived in the inbox, but the ticket simply couldn’t be created due to insufficient permissions.
We eventually discovered that the service account for the JEMH app did not have access to Jira. Since these accounts can’t be managed directly through the administration panel, we attempted a workaround. This allowed the JEMH app to work in some projects. Ultimately, we had to contact the app vendor and run the “Test Case” function on the specific profile—only then were we able to make the JEMH app work in all other projects.
