A big change in the jira ecosystem is coming. At the beginning of 2025, Atlassian will automatically migrate all Jira Work Management users to the unified Jira platform. This change will bring a stronger connection between business and software teams. What exactly will happen to your licenses, data, and apps?
Why is Atlassian Moving to the Unified Jira Platform?
By combining Jira Work Management with Jira Software into one tool, Atlassian is responding to the need for more efficient collaboration between business and software teams. The result is a centralized platform that offers everything you loved about Jira Work Management, with the advantage of seamlessly integrated features from Jira Software. Automatic migration from 2025
All customers with an active Jira Work Management subscription will be automatically migrated to Jira Cloud at the beginning of 2025. During this automatic process, the following steps will take place:
- Subscription Merge: Your JWM license will be merged with your existing Jira license, if you already have one.
- User Limits: If the number of users migrating from JWM exceeds your current user limit in Jira, your plan will be upgraded for free to a higher level until the end of the current billing period.
- New Jira License for Customers Without Jira: If you are not currently using Jira, a corresponding Jira license with the appropriate number of users will be created for you during migration.
At the end of this transition period, you’ll receive a 10% discount on your Jira subscription during the next renewal. Please note that unification of licenses may result in a higher price during the next renewal due to potential increases in the user tier or product edition.
Impact on your data and Marketplace apps
Your data, projects, and tasks in Jira Work Management will remain unchanged. No special data migration will be necessary. Marketplace apps will continue to function as before. If there’s an increase in the number of users and thus a potential increase in the pricing level for apps, Atlassian will cover this increase for the remainder of your current billing period.
