Over the past year, Cloud-based Confluence has made major strides, introducing new features and improving usability across the board. One of the most common questions we get from clients is: How difficult is the transition from server-based Confluence to Confluence Cloud? And how much of a change is it really?
While migrating to the cloud can present challenges, the benefits and new cloud-native functionalities more than make up for any migration hurdles. Let’s explore why moving to Confluence Cloud is worth it—and what exciting features await once you’re there.
A Modern Look and Enhanced Features in Confluence Cloud
The core concept of Confluence hasn’t changed, but the cloud version introduces a sleek, modern interface and a host of new capabilities. From better page creation workflows to more intuitive macro comparisons and improved navigation, Confluence Cloud offers a significantly better user experience.
Even seemingly small improvements—like the ability to view drafts directly within the page tree—help teams work more efficiently. But let’s take a closer look at the biggest enhancements our customers love in Confluence Cloud.

Over 100 Built-In Page Templates
On the server version, page templates often felt underdeveloped. With just a handful of default templates, many teams struggled to find inspiration for structuring content.
That’s changed completely in Confluence Cloud, which now offers more than 100 professionally designed templates—and the library is still growing. Whether you need a layout for meeting notes, project retrospectives, marketing plans, all-hands updates, or OKRs, there’s likely a ready-made template available.
Each template comes with a live preview so you know exactly what you’re getting before you start editing. This makes it faster and easier to produce clear, consistent documentation.

Presentation Mode for Meetings and Demos
Atlassian recognized that teams weren’t just using Confluence to create content—they were also using it to present it. That’s why Confluence Cloud now includes a sleek Presentation Mode.
By pressing “R” on any page (or accessing it from the menu), you can enter a distraction-free, full-screen mode that highlights your mouse cursor and even generates a QR code for easy page sharing during meetings. It’s perfect for remote team presentations, demos, or live walkthroughs with stakeholders.

Deep Jira Integration for Seamless Collaboration
One of the standout features of Confluence Cloud is its tight integration with Jira Cloud. Within each Jira project, you can now view linked Confluence pages, add comments, and even create new pages—complete with templates—directly from the Project Pages tab.
If you don’t see this tab, you may need to enable it in your Jira project settings under Features. Once linked, teams can effortlessly document requirements, updates, and retrospectives alongside development work.
This integration is particularly powerful in Jira Service Management, where it enables easy creation of post-incident reports, internal documentation, and knowledge base content—all without leaving the Jira project.

Guest Access for External Collaborators (Beta)
Working with vendors or external partners often raises the question: How can we grant access to Confluence without paying for extra licenses?
Atlassian is now testing guest access, allowing up to five external collaborators per paid license. These users will have limited permissions, ensuring data security while still enabling basic collaboration.
This long-requested feature may soon eliminate the need to publish content publicly for external access, and could revolutionize how teams work with contractors, agencies, and clients in Confluence Cloud.
